Understanding The 5 Key Septic System Services

Blog

Five services are critical to keeping a septic system in top shape. These are installation, inspection, tank pumping, repairs, and drain field restoration. Homeowners need to understand all five of these septic system services to have as trouble-free of a time as possible. Here is what you need to know about each service.

Installation

The design of a septic system is essential. Suppose a homeowner places the drain field in a location that gets excessive run-off. This design will create problems during the wetter parts of the year because a saturated drain field will perform poorly in most cases.

You have to live with every design choice you make so the installation process is the best time to avoid some of the worst problems. Make sure the tank's capacity meets or exceeds your household's requirements. These solutions will significantly reduce how often you'll need some of the other services.

Inspection

Scheduling an inspection every few years is a good idea just to preempt any potential problems. Understandably, you might also order an inspection if the system is having trouble. Typical inspections involve checking the tank, searching for signs of leaks, and verifying that the drain field is in good shape. A contractor may also use a pressurized system to test the flow rate. In some cases, they may use a scope to visually inspect the pipes or the tank.

Pumping

Septic tank pumping is necessary to remove solid waste. Even the best design will accumulate waste over time. However, a septic system service can bring a truck with a vacuum system to deal with the situation. Pumping is necessary once every several years at most locations. The frequency will vary based on the size of the household and the tank's capacity. Also, some failing systems may require more pumping.

Repairs

As with any system, components will break over time. Pipes burst and tanks fail. A septic system services contractor may have to dig up those components and repair or replace them.

Drainfield Restoration

Finally, there is the drain field. This is different than repair work because the drain field is where the system interfaces with the outside world. A drain field may use probiotic bacteria to promote the breakdown of waste. In other words, many drain fields are living things. Restoring a drain field's functionality requires careful attention to how the system interacts with both the surrounding environment and the bacteria.

Building Septic Tanks on New Properties: Tips, Facts and Ideas

Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Heather, and a few years ago, my partner and I got a very cheap property up in the mountains practically in the middle of nowhere. I knew we had to build, but there were many elements that I overlooked. I never even considered the idea that we wouldn't be connected to a town sewer system for example. However, I learned quickly as we built our septic tank. Through the process, I also researched a lot of alternatives to ensure we got the perfect septic system for our needs. If you are building on a new property and you don't have the option of sewer, this blog has everything you need to know about septic systems. I truly love to help others, and I hope these posts help you.
